Groningen Human Capital for Life Sciences
The Groningen Human Capital for Life Sciences project focuses on strengthening the knowledge and skills of professionals and master’s students in the Northern Netherlands life sciences sector. With a grant of over €747,000 from PharmaNL, the LIFE Cooperative, Hanze University of Applied Sciences, and the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) are developing ten educational modules at the bachelor’s and master’s levels, centered around the core areas of gene technology, bioinformatics, and bioanalysis. The program directly links cutting-edge scientific developments — such as iPSCs, CRISPR, organoids, and sequencing — to practical applications in industry, enabling participants to immediately apply their knowledge.
The modules are being developed in close collaboration with regional and national companies, including QPS, Ardena, ICON, Regenity Biosciences, CC Diagnostics, and InnoCore Pharmaceuticals, and are tailored to the current needs of the sector. The project provides both professional development for those already working in the field and master’s-level education, supporting emerging and experienced talent in maintaining a competitive position within the pharmaceutical value chain.
Objective
To train and upskill professionals and students in life sciences so they remain at the forefront of gene technology, bioanalysis, and bioinformatics — thereby contributing to the strengthening of the Dutch pharmaceutical sector.
“Our project aims to enable professionals in bioanalysis and gene technology to stay ahead in the rapidly evolving life sciences and health (LSH) sector, with educational modules that are directly applicable to their daily work,” says Sven Stielstra, LIFE Cooperative.
