News December 10, 2024 The deadline to submit project ideas is approaching quickly: Monday, January 13, 2025, at 2:00 PM. “This is a firm deadline,” emphasizes Claudia Leusink, Program Manager for PharmaNL at ZonMw. “Without a submitted project idea, you cannot proceed to submit a full grant application. So, start early!”
Claudia notes that applicants often have questions about selecting the right theme. “There are five themes your proposal must align with, based on PharmaNL’s investment agenda,” she explains. “We frequently hear applicants say, ‘My project fits into several themes.’ But you must choose one theme—the one that best matches your project.”
Another common question is about co-financing. “Unlike previous rounds, co-funding is not mandatory in this grant round, but it is encouraged,” Claudia clarifies. “Providing a financial contribution is recommended, as it allows for more or larger projects to be funded. However, it is not required and is not part of the scoring criteria.”
There is also some confusion about whether collaboration is required. “Many think they need to form a consortium to apply for funding from PharmaNL, but that’s not the case,” Claudia explains. “Individual parties can also apply. Public institutions like universities, universities of applied sciences, and vocational schools, as well as private companies, are eligible to submit proposals.”
When drafting your project idea, it’s crucial to ensure that its objectives align with the eventual full application. “The project idea is the starting point, and while details can be adjusted later, the main objective must be clear,” Claudia explains. “We also require an indicative budget at this stage, which can deviate by a maximum of 15% in the final application. Applicants should have a solid understanding of their goals and associated costs now.”
To avoid last-minute issues, Claudia advises accessing the digital submission system Mijn ZonMw as soon as possible. “Completing the form may take more time than you expect.
